Cadfan ap Owain, Abbot/priest of the small monastery at Eglwyswrw, which is situated near my old family estate, close to the ancient city of Viroconium, Cornoviorum. (Caer Gurion) My father was Owain ap Gwawrddur, a Lord of Pengwernand my Mother, was AEbbe, a noble lady of the Mercian's. Our family are brehyron (nobility) and we can trace our line back to the Kings of Hen Ogled.
First my grandfather then my father were killed while defending our homeland from the hated Northumbrians. My grandfather fell at Catraeth, my father at Guaith Caer Legion.
When l was 8 years old I was given into the service of God and sent to Bangor-Is-y-Coed, to be educated to train as a priest. There l witnessed the despoliation and destruction of the great monastery by a Northumbrian war band led by King AEthelfrith.
I escaped and have now dedicated much of my life to God. However, blood feuds run deep and to satisfy this I have made a vow to destroy Northumbria. AEthelfrith may now be dead but his heirs and successors must continue to pay. To this end l now serve my Prince, Cynddylan-ap-Cyndrwynn, Lord of Pengwern, as mass priest and spearman. Most importantly I act as interpreter between my Lord and King Penda of the Mercians.
